Inspiration Time

I've been away from blogging for a few months. Simply because, for a while I lost the inspiration to blog. Aside from that my personal style altered quite a bit in terms of the way I shop. I'd have days where I just want to get up and throw on a pair of jeans and a T. I was getting really bored with my wardobe and cleared out about 60% of it. I threw away clothes that I would take one look at and feel, not ill as such, but sometimes I felt so deressed about some clothing choices I had made that it made me want to cry a bit. And as much as I love clothes I never really realised until recently that a persons wardrobe choices could make you feel that way. Even down to a simple t-shirt or a pair of denim shorts. I am still picking things out every couple of days that I throw in a bag, destined to never be worn again. I discarded of about 30 pairs of shoes and quite a few bags as well. I took some time to ajust or fix the things that I wanted to keep that needed repair. I lost a bit of weight as well so some things either had to go or needed taking in. At first I thought looking into a fairly empty wardrobe would scare me but instead I saw it as the perfect blank canvas for rebuilding a closet that would enspire to be happy with whatever I decided to wear on any given day of the week.

I then made a long list of peices that I needed to make looking into my own wardrobe more ispiring to me. These things included bright coloured blazer jackets, different colour and printed jeans, smart cigarette shape trousers, large scarves in different patterns and fabrics and statement necklaces. Sounds easy right? However I got into a bad habit of thinking that if I didn't have it I wouldn't bother wearing it. For example; for work I don't really wear any nice pieces of jewellery, a chunky bangle or a big neclace, because they get damaged. So becasue I wouldn't wear them then why  bother buying them? So when I deleted that large chunk of my wardrobe that was holding me back I took the plunge and went and bought some big, bright, fun necklaces. And when I go out for anything other than work, I put one on.

I've also spent quite a bit of my spare time flicking through magazines and looking at street style blogs. I am back to shopping like an addict but this time round my wardrobe looks so different and even thought I am happy with it, I could still do with more. More lux t's, more flat shoes in different colours, more belts, just more. So here are some of the pictures that have not only inspired my to change my style but change the way I shop and look at clothes.....

Long time, all WEARABILITY.....

Actually wearing my clothes.

It's been a while, hasn't it? Nearly five months to the day to be exact.
Something else that seems like a long time ago is pay day. and even though the next one is less than a week away, it can not come soon enough. This month, for the first time in quite a while I will be able to afford clothes which is fantastic. I am especially excited because all the shops at the moment are dropping their Autumn and Winter stock. A/W as seasons are usually my favourite when it comes to dressing because I love layering, even though during the Spring/Summer months I enjoy not wearing tights. Atumn and Winter is usually when I go mental on prints and lux accessories. Then there is always the excitement of finding and buying the perfect coat for the season (always keeping in mind it's longevity).

One of my favourite things to do during the colder months is finding new things to play up one of my leather jackets with. This time I'm after a faux fur snood. Snoods are great, I find them much more interesting than an average scarf! Also time to start stocking up on ankle boots. I need a new black pair but there is a great cream pair by Zara that have really captivated my imagination (see below). Behind that zip is a pop of red which finishes the boot perfectly.

When building an outfit I never really thing about jewellery, I am not a massive wearer of it ans usually just wear the same rings. I have stacks of bangles but because of work they get in the way so they stay in the draw. I have my ears peirced three times and most of the time forget to put earings in! I own plently of necklaces but again they get tangled in my langyard at work so I stick to a simply silver chain. I think though this Autumn I will pay some special attention to this void in my wardrobe, focusing on necklaces mainly, I think. I want some that sit high up and carry a lovely, bold statement.

I would even think it is safe to say, that for a while I fell a bit out of love with dressing up unless I was going out, but recently was reunited with my love of clothes. Which has come along at a great time because I can afford to attack the shops once more. Last month for example, the only thing I bought was a vintage t-shirt. For some time I never really found anything that I would see and think 'I must have that'. And when I really think bout it alot has changed in the way I approach shopping in general. These days it has to be about wearability. Am I going to still be in love with it this time next year and is it something that will transend seasons? Can I wear it as a day peice or is it something just there for partying? For example I have stacks of dresses, cute for the daytime but great peices that I can easily dress up for a night out by adding a statement pair of shoes or jacket. Gone were the days of ages upon ages of wishlists. I'd never get round to buying the majority of it anyway so it became pointless.  I am after more trousers though (scroll back to a few posts ago where I explained I was totally without trousers).

Anyway, enough of me rambling....

Clockwise from top left: ASOS faux fur snood, Topshop beaded peter pan necklace, Topshop Boutique leather biker, Topshop boutique navy dress, Zara cream zip ankle boots.

Talking of longevity, strip away the biker, the snood and tights and theres a cute summer outfit!!

I am looking foreward to adding some great peices to my wardrobe. I am even thinking about having a deep clean through my clothes and having a seasonal clearout!

Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony boots

I haven't posted in a while, simply because I've felt so uninspired and I haven't had time to sit down and think about my blog. However in the last month or so, somehow I've managed to do rather a spectacular amount of shopping, and seeing as the January sales have been sat right in front of me what he harm in a little treat from time to time? My favourite find though has to be my Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony boots. I have wanted them for such a ling time and finally managed to get my hands on them thanks to a friend in Liberty.

Newbies/Rail

When you have a problem with space in your wardorbe what do you do?
In my case I have two wardrobes, plus one thinner wardrobe of just shelves for shoe boxes. After gradually loosing all space in al of the wardobes, I came to a little dilema. The first; no more space for shoes (this is not good), at first I was piling the offending boxes up at the end of my bed. Problem solved. Then there became no more space for clothes any more, and without the space for a possible third wardrobe in my room how was I going to stop the problem of clothes hanging on the outside of the wardrobes? I decided it would be a good idea to buy a rail. They are cheap, and you can put alot on them. Second problem solved. It now stands at the end of my bed, gathering clothes like a surface gathers dust. I am very happy with it, and the fact that it has a place for shoe boxes at the bottom, makes it 10 times better.

On another note ive been buying alot more vintage lately so I'll show you whats taking up the new rail space. Firstly eBay finds....
I woke up to a pile of packages the other day.

Urban Outfitters Renewal Blue Sparkly  Velvet bodycon dress...

Vintage Deep Red velvet bodycon dress.....

I found these Topshop 'Strike' shoes in my size on ebay. They had only been worn for  few hours.....

Vintage Purple plaid jacket. I am in love with this. Its so comfortable and just goes with everything....

Vintage Leopard Print shirt dress.... It cost me £2.99.

These Vintage Cutoff Levi's look light grey in the photo but they are more washed out purple. I love the deep pockets on Vintage Levi's.

Ok, now there is a bit of a story to these shoes. They are red ponyskin and are from River Island and when I saw them on ebay I fell in love and had to have them. When it came time to bidding on them I was at work and had to bid on my blackberry which was being so slow. So unfortunately I didnt get them. About 4 days later I got a message from the ebay seller saying that the winninng bidder hadn't paid for them and she was wondering if I would still be interested in buying them. I was over the moon to say the least. So now they take pride of place in my ever growing shoe collection. They are very comfortable and so easy to walk in.

Now onto Camden vintage finds. I bought this black velvet jacket for £5.

This Def Leppard t-shirt is a mens XXL. I cut the sleeve holes larger when i took the sleeves off.

I got this red plaid shirt and I have been living in it, throwing it on over everything. Its cropped and missing a button but love it anyway.

And lastly a silly picture of my new round sunglasses that I bought in Camden for £5.

I can see the rail filling up fast. Don't know what to do when I run out of space after this. Maybe a walk in wardrobe? That would be nice.

p.s. please excuse the photography. My camera is on the blink. I might need a new one.
